INTERIOR DECORATION (MAKING AN UPHOLSTERY CHAIR WITH BATIK AND PRINTED FABRIC)

ABSTRACT
This study was conducted to assess the application of batik and printed fabric in the process of interior decoration. Batik, popularly known as Adire is composed of the culture, the way of life, and distinct local art and represents one of the many ways of designing textile by dyeing. Printed fabric which is known as Ankara is another art of fabric production by printing different bold, colourful tribal-like motifs and patterns on textile through various dyeing techniques. 
The project first produced some colourful designs on white fabric using the batik techniques and also acquired some already printed fabric. These fabrics were then applied in the process of producing a chair, side stool and some throw pillows. The beautiful layers of colours and complex designs formed on clothing materials were applied in the process of producing chair, side stool and throw pillows. These were done to showcases the beauty of indigenous crafts which looks inwards to draw insight from our culture and tradition to produce products which Nigerians will appreciate. It is also intended that the product will lead to increase patronage in the patronage of indigenous goods and crafts in order to generate income for the practitioner, increase export as well as the economy of the nation. 
As human expression finds its way through varied forms of arts and other activities, this project portrayed the use of fabrics for Interior decoration in the area of upholstery making for exhibition.
